Are our pest control products safe for pets?

Safety for your pets is a priority. The products we use for our pest treatments are deemed safe for pets when applied by qualified, professional technicians in controlled circumstances. Our products are used in hospitals, schools, child care centres, food manufacturing and many other sensitive situations and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available on request. We recommend most pets are removed from the premises while treatment is being conducted and returned after the time specified by the technician. Which will always be enough time to head to the park and make the most of being a pet owner!

Is it possible to maintain a pest free home without the use of pesticides?

Yes – there are environmentally friendly ways of treating homes for pests that don’t require spray application. We use gels for cockroaches and ants regularly, with these less invasive methods of application dramatically decreasing the likelihood of non target species being affected by spray drift etc. Spiders are more difficult to eliminate, but numbers can be drastically reduced without spraying inside your home, though it does take a lot more work on the residents behalf than the pest controller. As with all pest issues, how you manage them is key! Cockroaches are often brought into your home in appliances and boxes, ants and spiders by gardening practices like letting trees and palms grow against the house, or pot plants being brought in. These are just a few examples but you get the idea. The best place to start is a thorough pest control service and a few preventative, ongoing household procedures.

How often should I have my home pest controlled?

We recommend maintenance servicing at 12 monthly intervals to ensure that pests don’t become a problem. Even if infestations are not regularly occurring, preempting the entry or seasonal recurrence of pests will reduce costs, provide ongoing protection and ensure a hygenic, pest free home.

When spraying for pests do you spray inside my cupboards?

Not usually, unless it’s requested for a specific purpose. We will then investigate further to find the best way to treat the issue and only ever wet spray inside a cupboard if it is empty. A gel or specially formulated aerosol may be used for cockroaches and ants, when required, which usually eliminates the need to spray internally.

I keep my home neat and tidy - why do I have cockroaches?

Cockroaches are resourceful, so there’s more to pest management than just keeping a tidy home. They often enter a dwelling through cracks in walls, open doors and windows or boxes and bags brought in from other venues of infestation. Once inside they set to work! Check for any obvious cracks, holes or gaps in walls that physically allow them entry and then make sure food is always sealed and benches free from food and residue. Cockroaches are omnivores, so they eat both plants and animals. They particularly like starches, sweets, greasy foods, and meats, but they are not picky eaters, they’ll eat what we leave behind. Cockroaches are resilient, so even though home owners can take all the necessary steps to avoid an infestation we also recommend pest control maintenance services at 12 monthly intervals to ensure a home remains pest free.

Will your treatments harm my fish?

If you have pets like fish and lizards for example it is very important that they are adequately covered, and any external pumps which provide air to the enclosure are also covered during treatment. A drop sheet may be used to cover larger ponds etc close to to areas being sprayed. With every general pest control job we book in we send out a to-do list outlining what you need to do prior to, and after service. We also walk through the premises prior to service delivery to take any precautions necessary to protect you or your pets, directly or indirectly.

Should I leave the spiders and their webs in my home so you can treat them?

No. We take the approach that spider webs are unsightly, make housework difficult and for some they are an allergy trigger. When a web is sprayed it often adheres to the surface it once hung from, and a thick web often means the chemical is not getting to where it needs to be, to be affective for very long. Washing the house after paying for treatment is counter-intuitive, and so we would recommend that cleaning down the external walls and eaves, and cob-webbing inside prior to our service, which means your house will more likely be clean inside and out when the pest control is due in 12 months time.

Will the products you spray harm my vege garden?

It’s often necessary to cover garden patches where herbs, fruit and vegetables are growing or these areas won’t be sprayed. Some chemicals we use are systemic and will be drawn by the fruiting plant and then contained in the fruit. If ants are the main problem in these areas then a gel bait can be applied with limited risk and good outcomes. We are always looking for alternative ways to treat problem areas, but the best approach for your specific garden will be found by having a conversation with the technician prior to service so they can understand the problem, take precautions and limit exposure to the garden area where necessary.
